Today I got an eyelash extension done at Flutters Singapore! I’m really pleased with the result and so excited that I took pictures right after showering. This was my first time getting my lashes done at Flutters Singapore, and my second time getting an eyelash extension in general. My review will be a side-by-side comparison of my first-time experience at another shop versus my experience today at Flutters Singapore!

What was my impression of the shop I went to previously versus Flutters?
My previous experience elsewhere: The shop was not brightly lit. The furniture was quite drab, and there were lots of staff just standing around. There was only one customer getting lashes done. A few customers were getting their nails done.

My experience at Flutters Singapore: Flutters was very pretty and very new, and very nicely decorated! They’ve actually just moved to Downtown Gallery from Duxton. The store was brightly lit and there were several customers getting their eyelash extensions done, which was a good sign!

Who did my lashes?
My previous experience elsewhere: The lady who did my lashes couldn’t speak English, and neither could the other people working there. When she saw me, she exclaimed and asked her English-speaking colleague (who was manning the reception) whether I couldn’t speak Mandarin. I also felt that they were quite pushy and kept trying to make me choose an expensive option. She also scolded me when I told her that I felt pain while she was doing my lashes (and this was after tolerating the pain for some time). Also her hands smelled like a wet dog.

My experience at Flutters Singapore: I felt like they were quite gentle and willing to listen and they also spoke English, which was a huge relief. They explained everything to me, without being pushy, which I really appreciated.

IMG_5124
This is a side view, the lashes look pretty fluttery and thick from the side angle.

What was the number of lashes?
My previous experience elsewhere: I felt a bit cheated because the number of lashes on each eye was unbalanced, and there were less than 25 lashes on each eyelid. And they had quoted me 40 lashes each, or 80 in total. The problem with so few lashes is that when one fell out, there was essentially a very obvious gap in the lash line, which looked ridiculous as more and more lashes fell out. Prior to me removing all the lashes, the number of lashes which fell was quite significant.

My experience at Flutters Singapore: I haven’t counted yet, but there’s apparently 60 lashes on each eyelid. So the total is around 120 extra lashes. If you refer to their website (which I’ve linked down below), you can see that there are a few options available!

How painful was it?
My previous experience elsewhere: It was painful during and after I got the eyelash extensions done. There was nothing I could do about it, so I eventually had to spend some time removing every single lash extension myself. I also had problems OPENING my eyes after closing them, and every time I shut my eyes it hurt. Sleeping was also very painful. I remember tearing while she was doing my lash extensions. People keep telling me “IT ISN’T PAINFUL” but my experience was really awful.

My experience at Flutters Singapore: It wasn’t painful and I would definitely go again!

IMG_5119
This is what a J-curl looks like, a C-curl is much rounder. I prefer this because it’s more natural and like my own lashes. A C-curl is more dramatic and less realistic in my view. There’s a mix of 8 and 10 mm lash extensions here, and I love the effect!

How long did it take?
My previous experience elsewhere: It took less than 30 minutes. Which is very fast. But they did a disappointing job. In the end I did get a refund for my bad experience, but they tricked me and didn’t give me a full refund as promised.

My experience at Flutters Singapore: It took maybe an hour, but it was pretty relaxing. Strangely, I enjoyed the Korean music they were playing, it put me at ease. And I preferred that they took their time to do a proper job and didn’t mess up!

How many lashes fell out?
My previous experience elsewhere: For both experiences, I took a shower 1-2 hours after the eyelash extension procedure was done. Several lashes fell out right after I showered on both sides right after. It was horrifying. Showering was a painful struggle ‘cos I couldn’t open my eyes without them hurting and stinging.

My experience at Flutters Singapore: I could open and close my eyes without pain while I was showering. No lashes fell out! Hurray!

IMG_5120
I also like how the lashes give my eyes an eyeliner-like effect!

What was the lash quality like?
My previous experience elsewhere: The lashes had a C-curl and VERY thick. It was also very plastic-y in texture, and very tough. It often felt like the lashes were poking/stabbing my eyes. I got 6-8mm lashes done.

My experience at Flutters Singapore: The lash extensions are very fine, and very soft. They also look more natural and realistic like real lashes! The lash extensions are not fake and thick looking. I also get a J-shape which is more natural, and I preferred these lashes a lot more. This time I got 8-10mm upon their recommendation, and thankfully they don’t touch my glasses.

What was the drying process like?
My previous experience elsewhere: They kinda forced me to hold a fan while my eyes were shut to dry both my eyes at the same time. It was some distance away from my eyes as well so I don’t think it dried very well.

My experience at Flutters Singapore: They used a fan for each of my eye and not simultaneously. Also the fan was closer to my eye and was more effective.

IMG_5122
From this close-up shot, you can see how fine and delicate the lash extension is. It really blends in with my natural lashes, and I like the criss-cross effect that Flutters Singapore has achieved, it reminds me of falsies.

Conclusion

Overall, I’m very happy with how my lash extensions turned out, and would recommend Flutters Singapore to a friend. If you haven’t gotten eyelash extensions before, do give it a try! If I’m not mistaken, they do eyelash extensions for guys as well.

If you’re interested in finding out more, you can check out Flutters Singapore’s website (you can also submit an appointment request on their website), www.flutters.com.sg They also do mani pedis as well! Since they’re located in the CBD, it’s quite convenient to get to after work.

As you can see, even with my everyday spectacles on, the lash extension doesn’t touch my glasses and my eyes look bigger!

I had seen A Better Florist’s gorgeous bouquets on Instagram (@abetterflorist) but when I received flowers, I was really delighted because they did not disappoint. The colours were really vibrant and the flowers instantly brightened up my room and my mood.

Flowers are such an ideal gift. They’re perfect for graduations, birthdays, get well gifts, parties, grand openings, weddings, anniversaries. To make things even more special and meaningful, there’s also the option to customise your own bouquet at A Better Florist!

Each bouquet from A Better Florist is carefully curated and I really liked that they came wrapped in burlap, I thought that was really unique and gave the flowers a very rustic touch. Speaking of delivery, did you know A Better Florist offers free delivery! Plus, they also offer express same day delivery in Singapore from 9am to 6pm.

The flowers come directly from Cameron Highlands, so you know that freshness is guaranteed.

Also, the website is really straightforward, no nonsense and easy to use. Love how they make online shopping so quick and efficient really. You can check them out at www.abetterflorist.com and for more inspiration, follow them on Instagram/FB!

The flowers that I received from A Better Florist were the Ayla ($68 + free shipping) and the Keira ($98 + free shipping). They were both very stunning. The Ayla was a perfect pick-me-up because of the bright yellow sunflowers and these blooms were really uplifting.

As for the Keira, the flowers were very fragrant. The bouquet consisted of lilies, roses, and tulips! I really liked the eclectic colour palette of purple, yellow, white and green.

If you frequent Orchard Road/Somerset often, or if you are simply looking for a chill place to unwind with friends and family over proper food and drinks, then this post is dedicated to you!

For those unfamiliar, Outback Steakhouse is an Aussie inspired steakhouse that’s been in Singapore for many, many years, and not too long ago they opened a restaurant on the fourth floor of Orchard Gateway. Outback also has a global presence with numerous restaurants around the world.

SAMSUNG CSC

What I like about Outback:
(1) It’s air-conditioned.
(2) It’s family-friendly.
(3) It’s away from all the hustle and bustle that is Orchard Road.
(4) It offers a stellar view of the Orchard/Somerset belt.
(5) The food and booze is really decent and reasonably priced.
(6) The bar area looks so fancy and they even have a sports channel dedicated television.

So if you’re looking for a place to have a decent meal with family or a group of friends or even just a plus one, you should check out Outback.

Before I digress any further, let me get into Outback Steakhouse’s awesome new menu!

So what’s new?

(1) Dessert Donuts
Omg I love this. Admittedly it isn’t photogenic, but EVERYONE knows that “ugly” food always tastes so goooood. I had average expectations, but this was quite mind-blowing.

The donuts are FRESH and crisp, and oozing with MASCARPONE. Omg. You can throw your diet out the window with just one bite. The dessert donuts kinda remind me of goreng pisang or a cross between churros and donuts. I’m still dreaming about this fried, decadent goodness, plus it’s served with a thick and heavenly Milo sauce.

(2) Skillet Cookie
As you can see, this is a yummy warm baked gooey chocolatey cookie served on a skillet with chocolate sauce. Ok at this point I’m just throwing up all the possible adjectives I can think of to describe this cookie. It has a really homemade feel to it as well. It’s really addictive, so please order this at Outback if you are a chocolate lover. On a separate note, this large cookie is suitable for sharing!

(3) Aussie Chicken Tacos

These were simply fabulous. The grilled chicken was juicy, tender and fresh and so tasty. Loved how they combined it with coleslaw and aioli so it wasn’t at all dry. Although the portions looked normal, it was actually really filling in a good way! I felt like it was the right balance between being healthy but also delicious.

SAMSUNG CSC

There were other new offerings on the menu, but since I’m an average human being and can’t eat like 100 spring rolls like people on YouTube, I didn’t get to try all the other new menu items at one go. HOWEVER, I intend to go back and try their other new dishes which I will elaborate more on below.

Besides what I mentioned above, the other new menu offerings are:

1. Spicy Crispy Chicken Sandwich (chicken breast seasoned in spices, breaded and fried, in a toasted bun with mayo, chili oil and pickles)
2. Shrimp Creole Sandwich (a crispy shrimp sandwich with lettuce, pickles, tomatoes, creole sauce)
3. No Rules Grilled Fish (fresh grilled fish with seasonal vegetables and shrimp scampi or Toowoomba sauce)
4. Ranchero Chicken (grilled chicken + mashed potatoes with lemon butter sauce, pico de gallo and ranch dressing and slaw)
5. Filet and Grilled Shrimp (filet with grilled shrimp and two sides of your choice)
6. Chile Marinated Ribeye (juicy ribeye steak chargrilled to perfection with avocado pico de gallo, Mexican corn, crispy tortilla, grilled tomatoes, chile sauce and sour cream)
7. Strip and Fish of the Day (Outback’s signature strip paired with flame-grilled fish and a side)
8. Rainbow Salad (mixed greens, cheese, tomatoes, cucumber, grilled chicken, boiled egg, bacon, fresh avocado and spiced orange vinaigrette)
9. Steakhouse Salad (seared sirloin atop mixed greens, tomatoes, red onions, pecans, and blue cheese vinaigrette)
10. Asian Spicy Pasta (fettuccine, seared chicken, sautéed veg, cashews and a spicy sauce, sweet chili garlic, herbs and tomatoes).

SAMSUNG CSC

This drink I ordered was the Pacific Rim. It was SO GOOD. You can really taste the alcohol, and it also has a very clean taste.

Something else that’s new on the menu is the Chef’s Selections. These brand new, reasonably priced dishes were specially created to cater to our Singaporean taste buds. There’s the Outback Curry Chicken (steamed rice, crispy chicken, bok choy, curry), Tropical Beef and Rice (sautéed beef, seasonal veggies, green onions, teriyaki sauce, steamed rice, spinach, pineapple), Country Fried Steak (a huge steak that’s battered, fried, topped with peppercorn sauce, and mashed potatoes and broccoli), Sirloin Steak with Rice (sliced sirloin steak, seasoned rice, sautéed spinach, black pepper sauce), Spicy Shrimp Bowl (crispy shrimp tossed with spicy sriracha aioli, spinach, steamed rice, sweet chili sauce).

As for the new appetisers, there’s the Bloomin’ Pickle Fries (fried pickles and fries with a sweet chili and creamy ranch dressing), Lemon Butter Calamari (pretty self-explanatory), Crispy Volcano Shrimp (crispy shrimp meets sriracha aioli sauce and green onions), and also the Appetizer Platter (sharing portion of the Kookaburra Wings, Lemon Butter Calamari and Crispy Volcano Shrimp!)

As you can see, they’ve pretty much outdone themselves by coming up with so many new food options to explore, so there’s really something for everyone. Well, I think that’s enough from me about the food, go check out Outback Steakhouse’s latest menu and be the judge yourself!

Outback Steakhouse is located at 277 Orchard Road, #04-01, Orchard Gateway, Singapore 238858. To make a reservation, call them up at 6702 6842!

Here’s a marble nails manicure by 3D Nails you wouldn’t be able to resist!

Surf the Internet and you’ll find countless marble nails usually paired with a shiny gold and matte black polish for an expensive look.

SAMSUNG CSC

To switch things up and move away from the typical white marble nail art designs, I wanted to create something more feminine and more “me”.

My manicurist, Janet from 3D Nails, helped to select the perfect colours for me. She chose a brand new gel colour that I absolutely love! So much so it looks perfect without any embellishments. The colour is wonderfully opaque and glossy, and it’s an unusual bright magenta shade – a colour situated between a bright pink and a bright purple. There’s no hint of dullness to the colour and it’s pretty unique! It’s a beautiful floral shade perfect for this season, and reminds me of Singapore’s national flower – the orchid.

SAMSUNG CSC

As for the marble design itself, Janet added an out of this world, galaxy-like coat of purple glitter on top of my purple and white marble nails. For the final layer, she added in a silver foil to add a really reflective pop of shiny silver to my white marble nails to take it to the next level.

When light falls on my nails, the silver foil and soft, subtle purple glitter really glisten in the light to give a starry, glittery effect.

What I love about 3D Nails is their professionalism, creativity and ability to turn my dream nail designs into reality!

If you are into girly, feminine nails but want to try something new and different for a change, go for this! The great thing about this manicure is that you can pretty much change the colours to whatever colour you like best.

SAMSUNG CSC

And last but not least, my fav part of this whole manicure is the pearl bow! This cute accessory is so eye-catching with its 3D shape and I love how the white contrasts so gorgeously with the magenta nails. I’ve gotten tons of compliments on how cute my nails are because of the bow!

Spring has officially sprung – and what better way to celebrate the season then with some gorgeous pastel nails.

This month, I got my nails done at 3D Nails @ Jurong East! (Scroll to the end of this post for the address and contact details!)

My nails this month are a combination of robin’s egg blue and a beautiful lilac/pastel pink colour. While the nail designs are similar, I wanted to shake things up with a mismatched yet complementary nail colour. The pastel hues really complimented my skin tone and I think they’ll look amazing on any skin tone.

In keeping with current Japanese nail art trend, I got some big, brand new crystals (4 on each thumb!) that 3D Nails just ordered. Each individual crystal is a different colour which I love. One is turquoise coloured, two opal coloured stones, and another super sparkly, diamond-like crystal!

And the crystals were applied so skillfully with acrylic, I was amazed they have managed to survive on my nails this long! It’s been three weeks + since I got my gel manicure done at 3D Nails.

For my accent nail (the third finger of both hands), I tried out hard gel for the first time in my life. Phew! The effect was super blinded out, super gel-like nails! The effect is holographic and trendy, it’s really cool and my first time trying out this style.

Also, for the first time, I tried a hand mask at 3D Nails! For March, it’s just $7 to do the hand mask (feels amazing and frankly so affordable if you wanna pamper yourself) The effect was a really cooling sensation, which it left my arms feeling tighter, smoother, and also brighter!

For a rough estimate of the prices at 3D Nails, here’s a breakdown of my March mani:
For the gel manicure it was $38, for the gel treatment it was $6, and for the nail art it was $30.
