Today I got an eyelash extension done at Flutters Singapore! I’m really pleased with the result and so excited that I took pictures right after showering. This was my first time getting my lashes done at Flutters Singapore, and my second time getting an eyelash extension in general. My review will be a side-by-side comparison of my first-time experience at another shop versus my experience today at Flutters Singapore!

What was my impression of the shop I went to previously versus Flutters?
My previous experience elsewhere: The shop was not brightly lit. The furniture was quite drab, and there were lots of staff just standing around. There was only one customer getting lashes done. A few customers were getting their nails done.

My experience at Flutters Singapore: Flutters was very pretty and very new, and very nicely decorated! They’ve actually just moved to Downtown Gallery from Duxton. The store was brightly lit and there were several customers getting their eyelash extensions done, which was a good sign!

Who did my lashes?
My previous experience elsewhere: The lady who did my lashes couldn’t speak English, and neither could the other people working there. When she saw me, she exclaimed and asked her English-speaking colleague (who was manning the reception) whether I couldn’t speak Mandarin. I also felt that they were quite pushy and kept trying to make me choose an expensive option. She also scolded me when I told her that I felt pain while she was doing my lashes (and this was after tolerating the pain for some time). Also her hands smelled like a wet dog.

My experience at Flutters Singapore: I felt like they were quite gentle and willing to listen and they also spoke English, which was a huge relief. They explained everything to me, without being pushy, which I really appreciated.

IMG_5124
This is a side view, the lashes look pretty fluttery and thick from the side angle.

What was the number of lashes?
My previous experience elsewhere: I felt a bit cheated because the number of lashes on each eye was unbalanced, and there were less than 25 lashes on each eyelid. And they had quoted me 40 lashes each, or 80 in total. The problem with so few lashes is that when one fell out, there was essentially a very obvious gap in the lash line, which looked ridiculous as more and more lashes fell out. Prior to me removing all the lashes, the number of lashes which fell was quite significant.

My experience at Flutters Singapore: I haven’t counted yet, but there’s apparently 60 lashes on each eyelid. So the total is around 120 extra lashes. If you refer to their website (which I’ve linked down below), you can see that there are a few options available!

How painful was it?
My previous experience elsewhere: It was painful during and after I got the eyelash extensions done. There was nothing I could do about it, so I eventually had to spend some time removing every single lash extension myself. I also had problems OPENING my eyes after closing them, and every time I shut my eyes it hurt. Sleeping was also very painful. I remember tearing while she was doing my lash extensions. People keep telling me “IT ISN’T PAINFUL” but my experience was really awful.

My experience at Flutters Singapore: It wasn’t painful and I would definitely go again!

IMG_5119
This is what a J-curl looks like, a C-curl is much rounder. I prefer this because it’s more natural and like my own lashes. A C-curl is more dramatic and less realistic in my view. There’s a mix of 8 and 10 mm lash extensions here, and I love the effect!

How long did it take?
My previous experience elsewhere: It took less than 30 minutes. Which is very fast. But they did a disappointing job. In the end I did get a refund for my bad experience, but they tricked me and didn’t give me a full refund as promised.

My experience at Flutters Singapore: It took maybe an hour, but it was pretty relaxing. Strangely, I enjoyed the Korean music they were playing, it put me at ease. And I preferred that they took their time to do a proper job and didn’t mess up!

How many lashes fell out?
My previous experience elsewhere: For both experiences, I took a shower 1-2 hours after the eyelash extension procedure was done. Several lashes fell out right after I showered on both sides right after. It was horrifying. Showering was a painful struggle ‘cos I couldn’t open my eyes without them hurting and stinging.

My experience at Flutters Singapore: I could open and close my eyes without pain while I was showering. No lashes fell out! Hurray!

IMG_5120
I also like how the lashes give my eyes an eyeliner-like effect!

What was the lash quality like?
My previous experience elsewhere: The lashes had a C-curl and VERY thick. It was also very plastic-y in texture, and very tough. It often felt like the lashes were poking/stabbing my eyes. I got 6-8mm lashes done.

My experience at Flutters Singapore: The lash extensions are very fine, and very soft. They also look more natural and realistic like real lashes! The lash extensions are not fake and thick looking. I also get a J-shape which is more natural, and I preferred these lashes a lot more. This time I got 8-10mm upon their recommendation, and thankfully they don’t touch my glasses.

What was the drying process like?
My previous experience elsewhere: They kinda forced me to hold a fan while my eyes were shut to dry both my eyes at the same time. It was some distance away from my eyes as well so I don’t think it dried very well.

My experience at Flutters Singapore: They used a fan for each of my eye and not simultaneously. Also the fan was closer to my eye and was more effective.

IMG_5122
From this close-up shot, you can see how fine and delicate the lash extension is. It really blends in with my natural lashes, and I like the criss-cross effect that Flutters Singapore has achieved, it reminds me of falsies.

Conclusion

Overall, I’m very happy with how my lash extensions turned out, and would recommend Flutters Singapore to a friend. If you haven’t gotten eyelash extensions before, do give it a try! If I’m not mistaken, they do eyelash extensions for guys as well.

If you’re interested in finding out more, you can check out Flutters Singapore’s website (you can also submit an appointment request on their website), www.flutters.com.sg They also do mani pedis as well! Since they’re located in the CBD, it’s quite convenient to get to after work.

As you can see, even with my everyday spectacles on, the lash extension doesn’t touch my glasses and my eyes look bigger!

Sometimes when I’m at 3D Nails (my go-to nail salon) flipping through nail mags and scrolling through the nail art bible that is Instagram, a thought will just appear – how am I gonna pull these pretty nails off at work? You know, when you see the super blinged out nails with gigantic crystals and elaborate nail art… And you’re just like ‘I cannot wear that to work it’s so outrageous!’
So sometimes work comes first when it comes to nails, so you might want cute nails but (and it’s a big but) you also want a pretty manicure that you can wear confidently at work.

The recent Totoro and Sakura nail art I did at 3D Nails (Blk 132 Jurong Gateway Road, #01-27, Singapore 600132) totally fits the bill.

IMG_1219
The light grey Totoro is adorable and just the right amount of eye-catching, while also subtle because it only covers half the nail while the rest of the nail is clear. As for the remaining fingers, they are all a lovely work-friendly, yet kawaii pink! The sakura flowers adds a nice feminine touch and I especially love the big glitter which reminds me of sakura petals falling in the early spring in Japan.

Here’s a close up!

I think when it comes to work-appropriate nails, I’ld recommend going for neutral, natural tones like grey, peach, and pink. Add a hint of glitter and floral nail art and it’ll be attractive enough for people to check out your cute nails while at the same time remain not so loud so you don’t have to hide your nails from every person.

So if you are contemplating getting a fresh manicure done, head over to 3D Nails. They’re super professional, patient and attentive to detail. Make an appointment as they can get quite busy by giving them a ring (Tel: 6563 0538) and catch up on their latest nail promotions + more on their social media! (www.facebook.com/3DNailssg

If you’re keen on getting the same nail art done, or just want a gauge of the prices, here’s a breakdown of my manicure and pedicure:

First I did the nail gel treatment. This is to ensure your nails stay healthy and gorgeous even after getting gel nails done. There’s no point in ruining your nails for beauty!

Gel Treatment – $12

The gel nail treatment was followed by the gel mani aka the zen time where I stop using my phone for a couple of hours and just relaaaax.

Gel Manicure – $38

Then came the EXCITING part omg. The nail art! Whoo I simply love seeing masterpieces unfold on my nails. Especially after having planned what kind of nail art I’m gonna get!

Nail Art – $45

Afterwards comes my absolute favourite part – getting a pedicure in my fav normal nail colour, OPI Malaga Wine. Scrub all those dead skin cells off my feet, please. (But not too hard ‘cos I’m super ticklish)

Pedicure – $28

Just in case you’re not so into Japanese-y kind of nail art, I’ve taken a picture of the other pretty nail art designs available at 3D Nails so you can make an informed decision! I hear that the cat’s eyes nails are pretty popular and trendy at the moment!! It’s super eye-catching and so pretty in real life.

Here’s a marble nails manicure by 3D Nails you wouldn’t be able to resist!

Surf the Internet and you’ll find countless marble nails usually paired with a shiny gold and matte black polish for an expensive look.

SAMSUNG CSC

To switch things up and move away from the typical white marble nail art designs, I wanted to create something more feminine and more “me”.

My manicurist, Janet from 3D Nails, helped to select the perfect colours for me. She chose a brand new gel colour that I absolutely love! So much so it looks perfect without any embellishments. The colour is wonderfully opaque and glossy, and it’s an unusual bright magenta shade – a colour situated between a bright pink and a bright purple. There’s no hint of dullness to the colour and it’s pretty unique! It’s a beautiful floral shade perfect for this season, and reminds me of Singapore’s national flower – the orchid.

SAMSUNG CSC

As for the marble design itself, Janet added an out of this world, galaxy-like coat of purple glitter on top of my purple and white marble nails. For the final layer, she added in a silver foil to add a really reflective pop of shiny silver to my white marble nails to take it to the next level.

When light falls on my nails, the silver foil and soft, subtle purple glitter really glisten in the light to give a starry, glittery effect.

What I love about 3D Nails is their professionalism, creativity and ability to turn my dream nail designs into reality!

If you are into girly, feminine nails but want to try something new and different for a change, go for this! The great thing about this manicure is that you can pretty much change the colours to whatever colour you like best.

And last but not least, my fav part of this whole manicure is the pearl bow! This cute accessory is so eye-catching with its 3D shape and I love how the white contrasts so gorgeously with the magenta nails. I’ve gotten tons of compliments on how cute my nails are because of the bow!

If you need even more reasons to go check out 3D Nails, this month they’re running a few promotions:

Spring has officially sprung – and what better way to celebrate the season then with some gorgeous pastel nails.

This month, I got my nails done at 3D Nails @ Jurong East! (Scroll to the end of this post for the address and contact details!)

My nails this month are a combination of robin’s egg blue and a beautiful lilac/pastel pink colour. While the nail designs are similar, I wanted to shake things up with a mismatched yet complementary nail colour. The pastel hues really complimented my skin tone and I think they’ll look amazing on any skin tone.

In keeping with current Japanese nail art trend, I got some big, brand new crystals (4 on each thumb!) that 3D Nails just ordered. Each individual crystal is a different colour which I love. One is turquoise coloured, two opal coloured stones, and another super sparkly, diamond-like crystal!

And the crystals were applied so skillfully with acrylic, I was amazed they have managed to survive on my nails this long! It’s been three weeks + since I got my gel manicure done at 3D Nails.

For my accent nail (the third finger of both hands), I tried out hard gel for the first time in my life. Phew! The effect was super blinded out, super gel-like nails! The effect is holographic and trendy, it’s really cool and my first time trying out this style.

Also, for the first time, I tried a hand mask at 3D Nails! For March, it’s just $7 to do the hand mask (feels amazing and frankly so affordable if you wanna pamper yourself) The effect was a really cooling sensation, which it left my arms feeling tighter, smoother, and also brighter!

For a rough estimate of the prices at 3D Nails, here’s a breakdown of my March mani:
For the gel manicure it was $38, for the gel treatment it was $6, and for the nail art it was $30.

Shea Terra Argan Oil

[Note: The product in this post is sponsored, and all views and opinions here are my own.]

This is an extremely belated post, but around the middle of this year, I received a bottle of Shea Terra’s amazing Argan Oil from Marissa of prettyfreshshop.com to review!

In this post, I’ll cover a bit about the brand itself, Shea Terra Organics, as well as the properties of argan oil and my personal thoughts on the Shea Terra Argan Oil product itself!

Shea Terra Argan Oil
What is Shea Terra Organics About?
The vision behind the skincare company, Shea Terra Organics, is to create a viable market for Africa’s amazing quality products, and to ensure not only that customers are getting products straight from the source, but also that the people behind it are treated fairly for their work.

It cuts out the need for a middleman to distribute these products and then sell African skincare products like shea butter and argan oil at ridiculously sky high prices while the creators themselves are earning much less! So what Shea Terra has done is to reduce artificially high prices for customers, while ensuring job stability for communities in African regions.

When Shea Terra first began about a decade or so ago, argan oil was pretty much unheard of outside of Africa. So as you can imagine, Shea Terra’s mission has been to deliver these relatively unknown African beauty secrets to the rest of the world, while making sure that the people creating the Shea Terra products are able to sustain and support themselves.

It’s a great initiative and these efforts to give back to society while offering new, quality, organic products to customers around the world is what really sets Shea Terra apart from any other beauty brand in the world.

Shea Terra Argan Oil
Shea Terra Argan Oil Review
Some companies will dilute argan oil. So just because something says argan oil on the tin, it doesn’t necessary mean it is pure argan oil you’re getting.

But with Shea Terra’s Argan Oil, it’s 100% organic argan oil from Morocco.

Shea Terra Argan Oil
How do I know? You can tell from its appearance. It’s pure (or at least very close to it) because the oil is shimmery, golden, and clear. If it’s cloudy and kind of opaque, then you know it’s been diluted and not 100%, and you’re probably getting ripped off if it says “100% pure argan oil”. But it’s not the case here, so you don’t have to worry about getting conned. There’s no water, no dilution, just pure, amazing argan oil from Morocco.

Argan oil is known for its high Vitamin A & Vitamin E content and squalene, which makes it a great anti-aging product, for it quickly brings back the skin’s elasticity, and repairs the skin. It would be recommended to use a drop or two of Shea Terra argan oil on your face at night if you have concerns as to preventing aging skin, or taking care of dry skin. Argan oil improves the skin by reducing wrinkles and sagging, while at the same time, hydrating and softening the skin. So argan oil will give you nice, youthful, soft skin. All this while, for many decades, it’s been one of Morocco’s best kept natural beauty secrets.

Honestly, this stuff is like liquid gold, almost, for your skin. It’s pure, untouched, and contains no alcohol or additives, or fragrances.

The smell at first was unusual, but like most oils, the smell of argan oil is calming. All oils have a scent of their own, and they are always pretty recognisable, e.g. the smell of jojoba oil. The closest thing I can compare the smell of argan oil to is olive oil, but a little different. The bottle of argan oil describes it as: “the aroma of this product is due to its unprocessed, unrefined nature, and therefore is natural”. Yep. No artificial aromas or chemical smells here.

Shea Terra Argan Oil
A Quick User’s Guide to Argan Oil
Shea Terra Argan Oil is also non-clogging, and non-greasy, so you don’t need to worry about it clogging up your pores or greasing your hair. It might appear too oily at first (key word: appear), but that’s because it takes several minutes (maybe 10-20 minutes) for the argan oil to be absorbed. It isn’t one of those instantly absorbed kind of products you get out there.

If you’re worried about the greasiness or oiliness on your face or hair, I’ll recommend applying just a tinyyy drop to see how much you need for your face, body, or hair. If you feel like you need more you can always top up!

As for hair, just add a little argan oil to the palm of your hand, put your palms and fingers together (get the argan oil distributed evenly) and kind of massage it through the ends of your hair and allow it to air dry.

Personally, I think it’s best to use argan oil before I sleep (because it’s calming and soothing) or to use it on the ends of my hair when I wake up so that there’s time for the oil to be absorbed before I leave the house! Also, the argan oil helps to ensure that my hair looks lively and not flat. The argan oil also helps to reduce the tangles in my hair and also soften and tame the hair just a little (no more bad hair days!).

Most importantly I think for me, is to condition and care for my hair and body with certified organic argan oil, not something with nasty, hard-to-pronounce chemicals in it!
